Tribute to My Great Grandparents and Grandparents, Longtime Residents of Glide

I wanted to make the first post on Glide Tracker in honor of my Great Grandparents Gilbert and Ethel Finlay, and my Grandparents, James (Sr) and Alice Finlay. My great-grandparents Gilbert and Ethel Finlay lived in Roseburg, but loved the Glide area and had purchased land for a cabin up in Glide around 1935. Gilbert had already been adventuring up in the area for over 20 years at that point and decided he wanted to have his own place out there. I shared an account of Gilberts hike up to Crater Lake in 1912 here: https://www.roseburgtracker.com/posts/6369c960d7afdc00046ccaad Gilbert passed on his love of the Glide area to my Grandpa James who along with my Grandma Alice, moved out to Glide onto the family property off of Glide Loop Road after he retired, I believe it was in the early 1980's. They lived in that home the rest of their lives (Grandma until 2005 and Grandpa in 2013). My Grandparents loved Glide and were very active in the community out there. My Grandpa volunteered at the visitor center their in Glide for a long time. He also helped with the Glide Wildflower Show and other local functions and fundraisers. They were loyal supporters of all the restaurants and businesses in the Glide area, as as the local schools. To this day we still have family living in Glide and it will always carry a special place in our hearts. My Grandma Alice once wrote me a letter encouraging my entrepreneurial pursuits, and she is one of the reasons I started building the Tracker local news sites as well as the Tracker publishing platform with my son Moses. I'll always be grateful for her encouragement and kindness. I hope Glide Tracker becomes a place that keeps current and former community members, as well as everyone who loves the Glide area, both informed and connected to the beautiful town of Glide Oregon. -Ryan Finlay
